5SHX1445H0002 Nord IE5+ synchronous motor: More efficient! More energy efficient!
The efficiency values of NORD's IE5+ permanent magnet synchronous motors significantly exceed the requirements of the IE5 energy efficiency rating. This particularly compact, energy-efficient motor consistently achieves high efficiency of up to 93% over a wide torque range, resulting in better energy savings at partial loads and partial speeds.

The European standards DIN EN 60034-30-1:2014-12 (grid operation) and DIN VDE 05330-30-2:2019-02 (inverter operation) define four energy efficiency classes for motors from IE1 to IE4+. According to these standards, in the industrial field, the more efficient drive device is called IE5. Nord's new IE5+ series of high-efficiency synchronous motors require significantly less rare earth elements than its predecessors.

Co2 emissions are significantly lower than IE3
This means that IE5+ motors not only save energy, but also reduce emissions. Compared to traditional IE3 asynchronous motors, a single IE5+ synchronous motor can reduce CO2 emissions by about 0.15 tons per year, and the energy savings are even more significant in large systems, such as internal logistics with hundreds or even thousands of drives. Based on the following assumptions:
IE3 asynchronous motor with 0.75kW power and 83% motor efficiency, equipped with bevel gear reducer
IE5+ synchronous motor with 0.75kW power and 93% motor efficiency, equipped with bevel gear reducer
Cycle: 16 hours of operation per day, equivalent to 4,000 hours per year
Energy saving effect of IE5+ motor: about 400 KWH per year
Emission reduction: 0.15 tons of CO2 per year (CO2 emission factor is 366 g/KWH)
Not only save energy, but also save materials
Another sustainability factor for NORD's IE5+ motors is also impressive: material efficiency. Jorg Niermann, Head of Marketing at NorD, explains:
Different innovations in motor design have helped us to maximize material savings with the new IE5+ series. Nord designed the IE5+ as an 8-pole built-in permanent magnet synchronous motor. This reduces the size of the active components of the motor, saving not only sheet metal packaging materials, but also magnet materials.
Rare-earth reduction
In the process of saving materials, Nord also reduced the proportion of rare earth elements in the magnet material. The mining of rare earth elements, which are mainly produced in Russia, China and Brazil, has serious environmental impacts. "We are pleased to be able to significantly reduce the use of this material," explains Jorg Niermann.
Jorg Niermann highlights:
Our IE5+ synchronous motors combine energy efficiency and material efficiency, so they have a double advantage in terms of sustainability, of course, not only for IE5+ motors, but also for DuoDrive gearmotors with integrated IE5+.
