ABB introduces its Instrumentation digital asset performance management platform ABB Ability™ SmartMaster Asset performance management platform that collects, analyzes and validates diagnostic data from field equipment to help improve operational efficiency in the water and wastewater, chemical, oil and gas and other industries.

The platform enables plant operations to manage instrumentation as a whole, identifying potential issues that could affect performance or lead to unplanned downtime.

•SmartMaster works with a wide range of field devices and instruments from ABB and third parties, such as flow meters, level gauges, temperature sensors and pressure sensors.

ABB has introduced ABB Ability™ SmartMaster, a comprehensive asset performance management platform for verifying and monitoring the condition of instrumentation and field equipment in the water, wastewater, chemical, oil and gas industries. SmartMaster can remotely collect, analyze, and verify instrument diagnostic data without interrupting current measurement tasks.

The platform can be used with a wide range of instruments from ABB and third parties, such as flow meters, level gauges, temperature sensors and pressure sensors. SmartMaster can be used as an on-premises or cloud-based solution to deliver a valuable overall overview of the field directly to a customer's phone, tablet or other device.

SmartMaster addresses important challenges faced by industrial companies, such as managing the large number of instruments installed in any one plant. Many plants often have hundreds or even thousands of devices, some of which may be installed in hard-to-reach or hazardous areas.

"For efficient and sustainable plant operations, it is essential to ensure optimal performance of every piece of equipment and instrument in the industrial process." Amina Hamidi, global head of the Instrumentation business line of ABB's Measurement and Analytics business unit, said: "Without digital service technology, we cannot optimise the performance of the hundreds of field devices that operate in the back office. ABB Ability™ SmartMaster ensures optimal instrument performance by linking the physical and digital worlds."

The platform offers more possibilities for equipment optimization and maintenance. With SmartMaster, plant operators can access data on instrument status and spot in advance any potential issues that could affect measurement performance or lead to unplanned downtime.

This information helps them make maintenance plans, spare parts orders and equipment replacements. SmartMaster provides information in the form of calendar view analysis and fault scenario analysis reports.

As part of ABB's suite of digital solutions for measurement and analytics, SmartMaster helps optimize plant operations. The suite includes ABB Ability™ Smart Device Manager, ABB Ability™ Measurement Device Validation, and ABB Ability™ SmartMaster.
