Beijing, China, May 13, 2020 - As a large number of enterprises enter the digital transformation implementation phase, they are eager to find ways to increase productivity. In addition, companies want to optimize complex business management models: while the vast majority of employees are comfortable in their own jobs and can procure goods and services properly, they still want to further improve efficiency. The advent of digital tools can help achieve this goal. Currently, digital technology has transformed the retail industry, but the digital transformation of the industrial sector has only just begun. Compared to organizations that have adopted digital tools and have more opportunities for transformation and improvement, the goal of increasing productivity can seem close but difficult to achieve for organizations that do not know how to go about it. Industrial companies want to find trusted partners to learn how to use proven models to increase productivity.

Schneider Electric and AVEVA's real-time data visualization and business operations platform for ABU Dhabi National Oil Company

In this article, Craig Hyman, CEO of AVEVA, and Vic Ho, global Executive Vice president and head of Industrial Automation at Schneider Electric, discuss the various attempts companies are making to successfully implement digital transformation.

Q: Can you give some examples of how your customers have increased productivity by deploying digital transformation?

Mr. Howerke: In general, we've noticed that there's a lot of interest in accelerating digitization. There are some excellent examples, such as Anglo Water, the largest water and sewage company in England and Wales. Every day, they provide water to 6 million businesses and households and treat 1.1 billion litres of sewage.

Q: What prompted Anglo Water to embark on the path of digital transformation?
Craig Hyman: At the time, Anglo Water needed to improve its operational efficiency and improve its processes. This means their teams rely on vast amounts of data to improve operational efficiency, prevent leaks, cut energy bills and streamline operations. This smarter, more digital business model will also help enhance the user experience.

The solutions we have developed with Anglo Water are not limited to addressing leakage issues, our comprehensive portfolio roadmap also aligns with Anglo Water's growth strategy. They need partners to help build a unified data source and decision support environment. In addition, Anglo Water has a strong focus on the connection between the Data Acquisition and Supervisory Control (SCADA) system and the other management systems of the company. They believe that AVEVA and Schneider Electric have the most comprehensive solutions in the industry.

Q: How does your company's integrated solution help them transform their business?

Craig Hyman: Anglo Water's Integrated Leakage and Pressure Management System (ILPM) is designed to address leakage problems while optimizing on-site operations. In the past, they would have analytics teams pull data from 30 different systems. This is a complex, laborious and error-prone process. Now, they can use advanced methods to pull data from a unified data source, monitor water system performance data in near real time, and monitor flow information in the network in ways that were previously impossible to view data. They can also identify locations in the system where repairs are in progress, and locations where repairs have not yet been completed. As a result, they can now find and fix leaks faster. With the AVEVA and Schneider Electric systems in place, their operations management teams were able to reduce water leakage by 10 million liters per day - improvements that benefit the environment, customers and network operations.
