The SST 5136-PFB-VME Profibus interface card can function as a DP slave or DP host to send and receive layer 2 (FDL) messages. The card supports simultaneous operation in all of these modes. ProfiBus standard baud rates of 9.6K, 19.2K, 93.75K, 187.5K, 500K, 750K, 1.5M, 3M, 6M, and 12M are supported. The card has an onboard Intel i960 processor and 512 kb of local RAM that handles communication protocols and data formatting into shared RAM.

5136-PFB-VME The card has an additional 256kb of RAM, which can be shared with the host as a single block of 256kb (linear addressing mode) or as one of 16,16 kb of pages (paging mode). In paging mode, the host determines which page of this shared RAM is mapped to the host memory by writing to the registers on the card. This memory block contains all the tables and buffers that are used to pass information between the interface card and the application software running on the host. This method ensures a fast and simple connection between the host and the card software. In addition, the card has 512 kb of sector flash memory for storing program and configuration data. ProfiBus configuration information can also be stored in flash.
