On March 19, the photovoltaic power generation and system integration project of Beijing ABB Low Voltage Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. was connected to the grid. The project is expected to generate 420,000 KWH of electricity per year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 400 tons per year. The energy saving solutions used in the project integrate ABB electric vehicle charging points and smart energy management technology, enabling building automation and digital management throughout the plant.

In 2020, Beijing ABB Low Voltage Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd. won the title of "National Green Factory". The successful grid connection of the above projects is also seen as an important step in ABB's green factory's carbon neutrality in China.

"Building on our experience at our energy self-sufficient plant in Ludenscheid, Germany, the latest Beijing plant project is another important milestone in ABB's drive to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030." ABB's new sustainability strategy reflects a higher level of ambition to benefit all stakeholders along the value chain and contribute to a low-carbon society." "Said Theodor Swedjemark, head of communications and sustainability at ABB.

China Industry News learned that ABB's low-voltage plant in Beijing has more than 600 employees and covers an area of about 24,000 square meters. The project was launched after a successful pilot at ABB Busch-Jaeger's Ludenscheid plant in Germany in 2019, and is ABB's first zero-carbon factory model project in China. As an important part of the "Mission to Zero" (Zero carbon emission) project of the smart building business unit of ABB's Electrical Products Division, the project will start in July 2020 and be connected to the grid in March 2021, with an installed capacity of 400kw and a total of 1,194 photovoltaic modules.

Oliver Iltisberger, ABB's global President of Smart Buildings, said: "Today's launch of the energy management system in Beijing marks an important step in ABB's efforts to fully implement its sustainability strategy, combat climate change and fulfill its core values. Building on the experience of our first zero-carbon plant in Ludenscheid, Germany, our sustainable building model has become a more efficient and scalable solution for plants, homes, buildings, cities and industry worldwide, helping to reduce environmental impact and accelerate ABB's mission to achieve Zero Emissions."
The project uses ABB's smart energy management technology to connect all equipment to the cloud-based ABB Ability™ Intelligent Power Distribution Control System (EDCS), which uses big data and artificial intelligence to monitor, optimize, predict and manage equipment. The ABB i-bus® KNX intelligent building control system can optimize the control of lighting, curtains, heating, ventilation, security and other equipment of the buildings in the factory.

The digitization of buildings through connected technologies and building automation also plays a key role in helping to manage grid reliability and electricity consumption, as well as in improving energy efficiency and reducing energy costs.

According to other data, the Beijing ABB low-voltage factory, established in November 1994, is one of ABB's global low-voltage product manufacturing bases. The company mainly produces terminal power distribution protection products and building electrical accessories products, the core technology of products comes from ABB Germany, ABB Italy, France and Sweden and other companies, products are widely used in urban and rural buildings, industry and public utilities and other automation fields. In January 2019, it won the title of "Beijing Intelligent Manufacturing Benchmarking Enterprise".
