Allen-Bradley 1746-A7 contains a modular processor, communication adapter module, and input and output modules. The seven slots are part of the SLC 500 modular chassis for flexible system configuration. In a modular system, each case requires its own power supply. The SLC 500 1746-A7 modular chassis can be used as a standalone unit in one system or in combination with another or two local chassis. Chassis interconnection cables can be used to build multiple chassis configurations and extend signal lines. This can create up to a total of 30 I/O slots. Vertically interconnect the chassis with 1746-C9 cables or 1746-C16 cables of different lengths. Both cables have rigid, non-bending shrink wrap for stress relief when connecting the module to the underside of the other. For horizontal layout, use 1746-C7 cable. Do not use any other cable for setup. Longer cables may compromise data communication integrity, resulting in unsafe operations.
A ground connection from the 1746-A7 chassis to the ground bus reduces resistance. Do not place one lug directly on the other lug when grounded. Compression can cause these connections to loosen. The maximum backplane current of the 1746-A7 is 5.1 V DC (10A) or 24 V DC (2.88A). For best performance, run at temperatures ranging from 0 ° C to 60 ° C (32 ° F to 140 ° F) and 5 to 95% relative humidity (no condensation).
The 1746-A7 is an SLC 500 chassis that can be installed into SLC 500 modules, such as SLC processors, SLC IO modules, SLC communication adapters, and dedicated modules.
The 1746-A7 has seven (7) slots and can be expanded to 21 modules by connecting an additional two (2) chassis from the main chassis where the controller resides. This is done by using interconnect cables with part numbers 1746-C9, 1746-C7 and other interconnect cables of different lengths. Each case requires a separate power supply, but only one SLC 500 processor is required. The processor should be fixed or installed in the main box. An extension chassis is considered a remote I/O rack.
