The Allen-Bradley 1756-IF8IH is a HART analog I/O module with 8 current inputs and 1 HART modem per channel. This input module is compatible with the ControlLogix system and requires an RTB or detachable terminal housing, which can be 1756-TBCH or 1756-TBS6H. The module is available in two input ranges, 0 to 20 mah or 4 to 20 mah, with HART instruments using the latter (4 to 20 mah) range. You can also choose one of the four data formats available for this module: Analog only, Analog and HART PV, Using Configured HART devices (No) to simulate by channel and HART to configure HART devices (No), and using configured HART devices (yes) to simulate by channel and HART to channel. Its resolution range is fixed at 16 to 21 bits. This module is used as a HART master station as it communicates with HART devices with HART revisions 5, 6, or 7. It also supports 1 HART device per channel, but does not support burst mode, phase shift keying (PSK), or multipoint network configurations. Instead, it detects and shuts down the burst device at the initial connection to the device. The 1756-IF8IH has inspection functions available. It can detect under-range and over-range, or when it exceeds input range limits. In addition, there is an open circuit detection function, which allows the module to report a negative full scale value in the input data label of the channel within 5 seconds in the range of 4 to 20 mA, while in the range of 0 to 20 mA, the open circuit condition results in a measurement of 0 mA, the same as the measurement of 0 mA without the open circuit condition.
The 1756-IF8IH's modular filter attenuates input signals at a specified frequency and above, as each channel has an ADC filter that affects 50 and 60 Hz rejection, noise accuracy, and minimum sampling time (RTS). It also has a digital filter that reduces the noise transients of the input data. Each channel has a separate digital filter. The 1756-IF8IH provides real-time sampling capabilities and indicates how often the module should scan the input channel and obtain new sampling data. After scanning these channels, the module broadcasts the data to the local chassis backplane.
