The 5SGY35L4510 IGCT module may be used in a variety of industrial applications requiring high power control, such as:
Motor drive:  Controls the speed and torque of large AC motors used in industrial machinery,  traction systems (electric trains) and high-power pumps.
Variable Speed Drive (vsd):  The 5SGY35L4510 regulates the speed of AC motors for applications such as fans, pumps,  and compressors to increase efficiency and save energy.
High voltage Direct current (HVDC) transmission:  The 5SGY35L4510 controls the flow of direct current in the power transmission system to achieve efficient power  transmission over long distances.
In the mid-nineties,  the only high power (15 MW) switch was the gto. These devices are relatively slow and difficult to connect in series as  required for devices such as 100mw high-voltage inverters.

ABB needed to "accelerate" the GTO,  and this was achieved by integrating the GTO into its door units to reduce closing times by a factor of 30. It was  quickly realized that in this case, the GT could be designed differently, leading to the "GCT" - a far more efficient device with up to 40% less loss. Since then,  14 device families have been developed, as shown in Table 1. IGCT is an underappreciated tissue that turns off like a bipolar transistor
IGBT), but conducts like a thyristor,  with minimal conduction loss . Figure 1 shows the shutdown at 3000a. Germ cell tumors provide the only high power semiconductors
Integrated into their door unit. Therefore, the user only needs to connect the device to 20v
Power supply and fiber optic control for on/off. Because of its topology when used,  IGCT produces a negligible loss of conduction. Coupled with its low conductivity loss,  it can achieve high-frequency operation before high-power semi-trailer can not be obtained.
