The main features of the FBM216b module include:

Eight independently isolated analog input channels.
Each channel accepts one of the following inputs:
Standard 4 to 20 mA analog sensor signal
The digital HART frequency shift keying (FSK) signal is superimposed on the 4 to 20 mA analog signal.
Module pairs provide redundancy at the FBM level
FSK modems are dedicated to each input channel for two-way digital communication with HART field devices
Analog-to-digital conversion of 4 to 20 mA input signals from HART devices
Supports HART generic commands required to connect field devices to the I/A Series ® system database
Each channel of each of the 8 input channels is isolated from each other, grounded and module logic
The FBM216b HART communication redundant input interface module contains eight independent and isolated input channels. A pair of modules are combined to provide redundancy at the fieldbus module (FBM) level, with field inputs connected to a common terminating component (see Figure 1, page 4). In this configuration, one FBM216b is the primary station and the other is the tracker.
The FBM216b can be used as a HARTcommunications field device host, enabling Foxboro™ DCS to request and receive two digital messages per second from field devices. The messaging function can be used to support HART generic, common, and device-specific commands, but does not support burst communication modes. These commands are implemented using Foxboro DCS Field Device Expert for HART. for more information, see Field Device Expert for HART Devices Control and I/O (PSS 41S-10FDMHRT).
